DIY Gel Air Freshener

Are you looking to get toxins out of your home and live healthier?

It's my mission to make our home chemical free, and I think I'm getting really close.

Air fresheners, especially the spray ones, are loaded with chemicals that are bad for your health.

Here's a way to make your home smell great, and it's soooo easy that it only takes 3 minutes to make. Seriously, it's that easy! :-)

Gel Air Freshener

1 ounce (or 4 packets) of clear gelatin
2 cups of water, divided
2 tsp. salt
30- 40 drops of Essential Oils (I use these)
Food coloring (optional, I don't eat this so I don't mind using the cheap fake food coloring)

Bring 1 cup of water to a boil and stir in the salt. Turn off the heat and immediately whisk in the gelatin (I poured all my gelatin packets into a bowl so that it's easier to dump in all at once). Whisk vigorously until the gelatin is completely disolved into the water, then stir in the other cup of water, and mix well.
If you'd like to add color mix it in now, then stir in the essential oils. Use 30 drops for heavier scents and smaller spaces, and 40 drops for lighter scents or larger rooms. You can make any scent you'd like.

Some great scent combinations are:
25 drops of Lemon, 5 drops of with Sweet Orange or Rosemary
20 drops Lavender, 10 drops Rosemary
30 drops of Peppermint

Once everything is mixed together pour the mixture into jars, then let them cool over night.

I made all 3 scents with this recipe.

Wipe the gelatin off of the pan and stirring utensil with a paper towel or napkin before washing to avoid clogging drains.

If you are really feeling crafty (which I rarely am), you can add items into the jars to make them more decorative, like a small bit of pine branch, fake leaves or berries, etc. Just put them in the jar before adding the gelatin mixture.

Enjoy your great smelling home!!!
