The How's and Why's of Doing a Juice Cleanse!

Thanks to all the fresh organic fruits and vegetables that are available now, this is a great time of year to do a cleanse!

Anybody want lots more energy!?  A juice cleans is a great way to get some!

The very first posts I ever wrote on NaturalNats were about me starting my juice cleanse, and I was not disappointed!  Doing the cleanse left me feeling crazy energized and good!

The movie that got me going on this cleanse is called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.  The guy named Joe decides to drink nothing but juiced fruits and vegetables for 60 days.  His friends and family all thought he had lost his mind.

The results for him were amazing!  He not only lost all of his extra body weight (he had been quite over weight, as you'd have to be to make it that many days on juice alone), but he also was healed of his auto immune disease to the point his doctor told him he didn't need any of his medications any more!

That's what got me so interested in juicing.  Yes he lost weight, but the most important thing was that he got so much healthier!  Since then many other people have also found this to be a great way to get healthier, and lose weight.

If all this sounds like something you'd like to check out more, I found a site you can watch the movie for FREE on  If you have Netflix (and probably Hulu) you can watch it on there as well.  It's a fun movie to watch to the point that my 9 year old daughter keeps begging me to let her watch it again.   LOL

I'd suggest a 3-5 day nothing but juice cleanse for the average person, with added days for those who would like to lose more weight.

Here is the site with juice recipes...  I'd recommend doing the ones with the least amount of fruit in them during the juice only days.  This will help to keep your blood sugar from spiking.

If you like to know how I started my cleanse, and how it all went, you can check out these older posts...

Day 5 of Nothing but Juice

Let the Feast Begin, the Cleanse if Over!

If you don't prepare yourself at all by cutting out sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and maybe meat and dairy, then you may feel pretty sick the 2nd and especially the 3rd days.  I cut out sugar 2 weeks ahead, I don't really drink caffeine or alcohol much, then meat and dairy 1-3 days before (I can't remember the exact number of days).  I suggest eating whole grains with organic fruits and vegetables on those days.

Although the beginning is a bit hard physically it is just your body cleaning itself out.  Day 2 was a little hard, day 3 I felt terrible but kept up my mom duties, by day 4 I felt good, and I can't even describe in words how great I felt on day 5!  It was like I had gotten super woman's body.  I had so much energy my kids couldn't keep up, and I didn't feel tired in the middle of the day at all!  That made it all worth it!

After that I added organic fruits and vegetable and then whole grains back into myr diet, followed by meat and dairy a day or more later.

This is a great time to check if you have any food intolerance by adding in say dairy for a week and seeing if you notice a difference in how you feel, then wheat the next, maybe corn after that.

Make sure to drink lots of pure water while doing the cleanse.  If you don't have a good pure water source then bottle spring water is probably the next best thing.

After the cleanse, juicing is a great way to stay healthy.  It's hard for most people to get enough vegetables in their diets, and juicing once a day as a snack or breakfast can make it easy to stay healthy!  My kids favorite, which is also a cheap one, is just carrots with celery.

If you have any questions about doing this type of cleanse I'll be happy to try and answer them.  Good luck to ya!

*Disclaimer:  Make sure to check with your doctor before making any changes to your diet, especially if you are sick or are on medications which can be altered by diet.
